Brisbane Event Photography

Along with my photography work for bars, restaurants, hotels, and resorts, I've been brought on to photograph many different types of events. Working as an event photographer started with documenting the events held at the spaces I was already working for and grew to become a substantial part of my work! Events can vary significantly from project to project, but all contain somewhat similar categories.

Candids
As an event photographer, I find that some of the most desired and beneficial imagery I can capture at these events are the candids of people having a great time. When reflected on, these images have the power to make people remember the good times they had at the event. My experience in fast-paced environments has given me the skills to capture moments that may only last for a few seconds, such as a few smiles across the room in a friendly conversation.

Keynote speakers
Along with many people having a great time, there are almost always key speakers at these events. These key speakers deserve to have some excellent documentation of them courageously addressing the crowd. Usually, these speakers speak in dimly lit rooms with a bright beam of light on them. Capturing properly lit photos of the key speakers takes the right equipment and knowledge to get done, which I always bring with me when hired to photograph events.

Amenities and atmosphere
Another aspect of event photography is showcasing the amenities available to those enjoying the event. Tasteful shots of the catering, branded merchandise, cocktails and open bars, activities, and waitstaff taking quality care of people. All of this, when appropriately photographed, has the power to showcase that the organization takes good care of the people who work for it, which is essential in keeping team morale high and encouraging more people to join the team.

Headshots and portraits
Event photography is also an excellent opportunity to get quality headshots of the people who work there. A good headshot is an incredibly valuable asset for anyone. It can be used for staff directories, email profile pictures, or just by individuals for their social media or personal usage.

Venue centered content
Lastly, showcasing the venue as a whole is also important for both the organization holding the event and the venue's use to keep getting booked in the future. These photos usually include some excellent "hero" shots that showcase the venue booked, signage of the event space, exterior images, and any signage/logos that showcase where the event was held.

Low light photography
One of my first consistent photography clients was a nightclub (client project Lucid Light Lounge) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Working with Lucid required me to purchase equipment well suited for low light scenarios and gave me the experience needed to be extremely comfortable photographing fast paced environments in little to no light scenarios.

Image editing
I will always do all the photoediting myself, as it is something I very much enjoy doing and want to ensure the photos are delivered exactly how I envisioned with a client. Editing photos often includes editing out any distracting/unwanted objects like bright red exit signs, cords, nametags, dirty glassware or plates, and even combining multiple group photos to ensure everyone is smiling their best! haha
